Chair Role

Simon Hall (Auckland)

Simon is Operations Manager at Caliber Design, a mechanical design and analysis consultancy. He is also the current Chair of MEG and was previously Chair of Engineering NZ Auckland Branch from 2008-2011. His aims for the MEG are to foster collaboration within mechanical engineering and across other technical groups with mutual interests; and to engage with student engineers in order to help prepare them for a fulfilling career.

Ian Vedder (Auckland)

I am a Mechanical Engineer, Project Director & Managing Director with 30-year experience mostly designing and managing major infrastructure construction projects with values of up to $A1 Billion. I own and manager a group of Consulting, Contracting and Product sales businesses operating across Australia and New Zealand. My latest venture is a recruitment agency specialising in skilled trades, engineering and project management personnel. I have been a CPEng competency lead assessor for Engineering NZ for the past 15 years and a member of Engineering NZ since the mid 90s,and joined the Auckland Branch committee this year.

John Heywood (Auckland)

Project manager roles in NZ and UK, Member of ENZ and Fellow of I Mech E, MEG committee for 8 years, currently Treasurer Management Committee. Also liaison with NZ Panel.


Tim Lynch (Auckland)
Long term mechanical engineer with a passion for all things mechanical.  Currently working for a New Zealand owned Gantry Crane manufacturer (SME) supplying lifting technology options for NZ and the South Pacific clients.  Been involved with IPENZ/Engineering NZ for the last 35 years in various guises. 


Neil Smit (Auckland)

I am very keen to promote mechanical engineering in the industrial and automated machinery sector and be involved with organizing joint events with other branches of engineering.
